Vishay Introduces Synchronous Buck Regulator with Input Current from 2A to 10A Output Power Over 100

These versatile devices feature an input voltage of 4.5V to 60V and a peak efficiency of 98% in a space-saving 5mm x 5mm MLP55-27L package.

Vishay has announced the expansion of its new 2A to 10A devices with an input voltage of 4.5V to 60V to expand its microBUCK® synchronous buck regulator. The Vishay Siliconix SiC46X device is space-saving and is packaged in a small MLP55-27L package. High performance n-channel trench MOSFET and a controller for high efficiency and high power density, improved long-term reliability and simplified thermal management.

The regulators released today use high-side and low-side MOSFETs with five-fold lower on-resistance than competing devices. These devices feature extremely low quiescent current and high efficiency over the entire load range with peak efficiency of 98%. High efficiency reduces power loss and helps system designers increase power density. The output current of the SiC46X series regulators is the industry's leading, and is the only device that can output more than 100W in a 5mm x 5mm package.

High efficiency combined with the excellent thermal design of the MLP55-27L package allows the regulator to operate at lower temperatures, improving long-term reliability without the need for heat sinks. This allows designers to reduce PCB size, simplify thermal management, and reduce system cost.

The SiC46X family of regulators has a wide input voltage range and can regulate output voltages from 0.95 * VIN to 0.8V for a wide range of applications, including DC/DC converters for industrial and factory automation, and programmable logic control. (PLC), home automation equipment, industrial computing, base station power, wall-mounted transformer regulators, robots, drones, battery management systems, power tools, electric bicycles, vending machines, ATM machines and coin machines.

The SiC46X series includes 2A SiC464, 4A SiC463, 6A SiC462 and 10A SiC461. All devices have the same footprint, making it easy for designers to implement scalable applications. These regulators have many configurable features. The switching frequency can be adjusted from 100kHz to 2MHz. The soft start and current limits can be adjusted. There are three modes of operation: forced continuous operation mode, energy saving and ultrasonic.

The device's COT architecture features ultra-fast transient response and small output inductance for tight ripple regulation at light loads. Moreover, the regulator maintains loop stability regardless of the type of output capacitor used, including ceramic capacitors with low ESR. These devices integrate reliable protection features including output overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent circuit protection (OCP), short circuit protection (SCP) with automatic retry, over temperature protection (OTP) and power good flag (PG).
